Rheem Vitreous Enamel (VE)
Rheem VE systems use a heavy-duty steel cylinder lined with a durable glass-like enamel coating. A sacrificial anode protects exposed steel from corrosion and should be replaced when required.

Repair or replace?
Not every older Rheem needs replacing. Heating elements, thermostats, gas valves, burners, igniters, fans, sensors, pressure relief valves and tempering valves can often be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a new system.
However, if the storage cylinder has rusted through and is leaking, a replacement and new installation is generally the only practical option.
